Grayson was born on 11-27-2013 a seemingly healthy baby boy, at 2 days old our world was turned upside down, we found out that he had 4 severe heart defects. DILV (Double Inlet Left Ventricle), TGA (Transposition of the Greater Arteries), IAA (Interrupted Aortic Arch) , and VSD (Ventricular Septal Defect). He underwent his 1st open heart surgery on 12-6-2013, due to us not knowing he had any Congenital Heart Defects he got very very sick, as a result his body filled up with to much lactic acid and his heart muscle suffered quite a bit as well as his liver and kidneys, due to all of that he couldn't receive the Norwood procedure for his 1st open heart, he only received a hybrid, then he came home with a gtube ( a surgical feeding tube) and a PICC line (type of IV that is inserted into the arteries instead of the veins) that gives him milrinone, a medicine to allow his heart to squeeze properly and efficiently. He came home on 2-18-2014 at almost 3 months old. He did fantastic at home, but as with almost all CHD baby's they require up to 3 or more surgeries. So on May 6, 6 months to the day after his fist open heart surgery Grayson went back in a received his Glenn/Norwood surgery. He came through that very well, and we thought we were on the road to recovery. Sadly we weren't, he went in on Friday May 9th for his 3rd open heart surgery, this time and emergency surgery, his left pulmonary artery was receiving no blood flow they had to move fast. Once inside it was discovered he had a blood clot inside the artery and outside the artery, Dr K. worked diligently and cleared the clot, and had to narrow his artery, his repaired Aortic Arch was laying on the artery blocking flow. Dr Kavarana has now saved our boys life 3 times and we are so grateful to him and all the MUSC Children's Cardiac team. Grayson is still currently in PCICU trying hard to recovery from two open heart surgeries in one week. He is a mighty warrior and with all his warriors will pull through this. Once he is healed from this surgery and much stronger, he will be put on the heart transplant list to receive his new heart.
